In Search of Help
Musaib is 37 years old and lost one leg at the age of seven during the Lebanon war in 1982. His other leg, which was driven over by a truck, has severely atrophied.
After enduring two years of bombings, he and his wife, Hameeda, left their home in Syria and came to Jordan.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan drove them to the border and then they walked across the border; narrowly missing the snipers that usually await those trying to escape.
Musaib used his crutches to cross, but, due to the journey, they are now severely damaged and held together only by tape.
From the border, an ambulance brought them to a refugee camp where they stayed for 20 days. However, due to Musaib’s physical situation, using the toilet (especially squatting) was becoming a major issue. So they decided to leave the camp and are now living in Mafraq (northeastern part of Jordan) for the past 15 days.
They have nothing!
In Syria, Musaib used to buy and sell houses and cars to earn a living. Today, they are left with nothing; struggling to find food, sleeping on a thin mattress in a 12x12 room that has a roof caving in, and struggling to pay their exorbitant rent for only that run-down room.
Plus, Musaib has an urgent need of new crutches and a wheelchair.
We are helping people like Musaib and his wife. Thousands of Syrian refugees are fleeing into Jordan with nothing but their clothes on their back.
