Community Development
Once a deep-capped well is provided, villages can get involved with additional opportunities that continue to enhance and improve their community.
Some of these opportunities include:
-
Water Committe Training
-
Hygiene and Sanitation Training
-
Gender Sensitivity Training*
-
Family Health Training*
-
Regional Repair - We train individuals as Regional Repair Representatives who then work with the local water committee to keep the water well in good working condition.
-
Hand Washing Stations* - Regular hand washing is perhaps one of the most effective ways to prevent water-borne diseases. We provide a simple hand washing station, complete with soaps and skilled in-country facilitators who educate villagers on hand washing and sanitation issues.
-
Maternal, Newborn and Child Health* - Reducing the mortality rate of women and children, improving access to clean water, providing training in healthy practices and gender sensitivity, and increasing absorption and consumption of nutritious foods by mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children under the age of five
- Clinic Worker Training* - Health clinics in the remote areas of Benin and Togo often have staff who are not fully trained in best practices for women and children’s health. While clinic workers may be committed to positive delivery outcomes and perform some beneficial practices, they may unknowingly use harmful traditional practices. By training and updating clinic workers on safe and effective maternal, newborn and child health practices, we can help them provide quality health care and save the lives of mothers and their children.
