How much does it cost to sponsor a child or a destitute woman and where does my money go?
The total monthly cost of $90 covers all of a child’s needs, including shelter, food, clothing, medical care, education, school supplies, and spiritual care. You can choose to sponsor a child at Mukti for the full $90 per month, or choose to pay $30 per month as a portion of the child’s support, in which case GAiN will partner other sponsors with you to fully support this child.
By sponsoring and praying for a child, you provide vital physical and spiritual support as he/she grows up in this changing world. The total monthly cost of $75 covers all of a destitute woman’s needs, including shelter, food, clothing, medical care, vocational training, and spiritual care.
You can choose to sponsor a destitute woman for the full $75 per month, or choose to pay $25 per month as a portion of the destitute woman’s support, in which case GAiN will partner other sponsors with you to fully support this woman. GAiN ensures that the money received for child or destitute woman sponsorship is distributed for each child or woman’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. GAiN comes alongside the woman or child and provides for their individual development.
How often do I pay?
Sponsorship may be paid monthly or annually, and can be received by cheque, credit card, or pre-authorized payment. Please make cheques payable to GAiN or click here to give online.
As a child or destitute woman sponsor, what will I receive from GAiN?
When you become a sponsor you will receive a package with your sponsored child or woman’s photo and profile information. At Christmas, you will receive a greeting from your sponsored child or woman, and a progress report is sent on alternate years.
(For those sponsoring a child in India, there is also a monthly Mukti Prayer Letter that contains information on one Flower Family, which means that you may expect to read about your sponsored child or woman once a year.)
Can I write to my sponsored child or woman?
Yes, they love to receive short letters in simple English, as well as photos. They proudly show others their letters.
Please mail the letter to GAiN (20385 64 Avenue, Langley, BC V2Y 1N5) with a note including your child’s/woman’s name, ID number and we would be happy to forward it on to the home.
Will my sponsored child or woman write back?
They love to receive letters, but for most of them it is not possible to write back in English. Although most are taught English as a subject in high school, many are not fluent enough to speak or write it. Many of the children's "matrons" do not know sufficient English to help the children answer letters.
Can I send gifts?
For children or woman sponsored in India, you may send a monetary gift to GAiN along with your regular support—we recommend about $10. Birthday or Christmas gift money is pooled so that each child or woman, some of whom don't have sponsors, will receive a gift. This avoids conflict and enables all children and women to share equally in the blessings. Please DO NOT send packages. Not only may items be confiscated by Indian Customs, but the Mission could be in danger of appearing to receive contraband goods. Please DO NOT send money directly. It is a punishable offence in India to receive money through the mail.
Can I visit my sponsored child or woman?
While we do not currently arrange for individual visits, there are opportunities to visit your sponsored child or woman by joining a LIFE (Labour, Influence, Finance, or Expertise) Team project with us to India and Tanzania but not Southeast Asia. This short-term (usually two weeks) opportunity involves serving in various capacities (painting, helping children with homework, basic construction), but would also allow for meeting your sponsored child or woman. How long do I need to sponsor a child or woman?
The children need a sponsor for the entire time they are a dependent staying at the home. It is up to you how long you choose to sponsor him/her for, but we trust you will be involved for some years. Many of our sponsors have been helping their child for over 10 years and found it to be a blessing.
What if I can’t make my sponsorship payments?
Please contact a Project Manager at 604-514-2058 or email Bessie Lee as soon as possible to discuss available options or, if necessary, discontinue your sponsorship.
What happens when the child or woman I sponsor leaves the home?
You will be notified if your sponsored child or woman leaves the home for any reason. When a young adult becomes financially independent after training, or if he/she marries, we will inform you and ask whether you would like to sponsor another child. Likewise with an empowered, equipped and resourced woman.
