Nepal Earthquake Relief
On April 25th, a powerful 7.8 earthquake devastated Nepal. From April 25 to May 11, 160 aftershocks recorded above 4 on the Richter scale. The most intense aftershock occurred on May 12, magnitude 7.3.
As of May 15,
- over 8,316 people killed
- 17,866 injured
- 15,001 governmental buildings completely destroyed
- 288,797 public (residential) buildings completely destroyed
- 39 of Nepal's 75 districts have been affected
We have in-country partners in Nepal responding with immediate relief. Between April 28 and May 12, we conducted nine distributions to 485 families, which resulted in 2,830 beneficiaries. Items that were distributed included tarps and food packets.
“We're working closely with our partners to determine how we can best respond to the needs of the Nepalese people who are suffering tremendously right now," says Bill Blaney, Executive Director and CEO of GAiN Canada. "We are committed to serving as the hands and feet of Jesus, but we need your help.”
